Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending is not only consistently featured high in Classic fm’s ‘Hall of Fame’, but is also the most requested piece on Radio 4’s ‘Desert Island Discs’.
Inspired by a Meredith poem, the lark is represented by the solo violin as it soars into the stratosphere.
This quintessentially English music will be surrounded by the likes of Britten and Walton, with a particular emphasis on that most British of composers, Elgar.
