An introduction to Mountain Biking (Free Training)

Whether you’re a total novice who yearns to explore, someone who has owned a mountain bike for years but never ventured away from tarmac or you want to learn how to take the kids on an adventure safely, this FREE course is for you.

Led by a qualified mountain bike instructor (male), all the basic skills required to maximise your enjoyment of local tracks and trails on a mountain bike are covered, including:

- Pre-ride bike safety checks
-Use of gears
- Descents
- Ascents
- Front wheel lifts
- Rights of way – where you can and cannot cycle off-road, and courtesy to others
- What equipment to carry on the trail
- Basic maintenance & repairs (cleaning, lubrication, fixing broken chain, repairing a puncture)
- Q&A and Advice

All you need is a well-maintained mountain bike, a helmet and a few basics. No previous skills (other than being able to ride a bike!) are needed and no-one will get left behind. Everything else, including specialist equipment, is provided by the instructor.

Ages 16+ only
Time: 9am - 1pm (starting and finishing at Barbury Castle)
