Swindon Festival of Literature 2010 - Bonnie Greer
BONNIE GREER – on Obama Music. What early musical influences might make a twenty-first century leader hot, or cool?
What part might the music of one city play in the making of the latest US president?
What does it mean to be a “south-sider” in Chicago?
And what’s involved in keeping it real and remembering your roots?
There is a great history of what people, who voted Barack Obama to the presidency, have suffered and overcome. It is carried in their music.
Award-winning writer and broadcaster Bonnie Greer was born in Chicago.
Her latest book, Obama Music, shows how even songs are full of both unseen boundaries and expressions of freedom, and how President Obama may, or may not, have inherited the best of it.
Tickets - £7 (£6)
DOUBLE TICKET £11 for two events:
Stanley Wells 6.30pm and Bonnie Greer 8pm
