Retro Communications Workshop
As part of National Science and Engineering week, the Museum of Computing is holding two special events (Saturday 12th and Saturday 19th of March). To tie in with this year's theme of 'Communications', the museum is taking a step back in time to explore communication methods of the past.
Build and try tin-can telephones, see how far you can make them work and if they can be used around corners!
Staff will also be building Morse Code keys from Lego and using them to transmit messages across the museum!
On the afternoon of the 12th there will be a special guest - an ex Special Forces signaller who will be giving expert lessons in morse code so you can see how it should be done.
Try your hand at semaphore and pass secret messages in the 'codes and ciphers' section where there will also be a competition to decrypt a secret message.
Finally, the museum are hoping to have a 1960's teletype up and running, the predecessor of the keyboard and monitor that we all use today.
It's going to be fun event for all the family!
The standard museum admission charges apply -
Adults £2.00/Conc £1.50
Children £1.00
Families £5.00
