St George's Day in Swindon
He's big! And he's back! Swindon's giant St. George parade through the town centre
Swindon's 20ft high figure of England’s patron saint proudly paraded through the town centre today to celebrate St George's Day.
The giant statue surprised shoppers as it led a procession from Regent Street to Wharf Green via Canal Walk.
And although last year's statue parade met with a glitch after being too tall to pass under the Brunel Centre walkway - organiser Mike Pringle decided this would now be all part of the event.
"It's a tradition now!" commented Mr Pringle, director of Swindon Cultural Partnership.
“But today we want everyone in Swindon to celebrate what's great about England.
"We have everything here that is great about the country as a whole, including the wonderful cultural mix that makes England what it is.
"This evenr is all about letting all the people of Swindon stand up and celebrate their culture.”
