Swindon's Great Oudoors
Events where you can discover Swindon's green spaces, nature & wildlife
It's an old cliche we know, but Swindon really is situated in some of the most incredible countryside in the United Kingdom.
Just a short drive - and sometimes walk - from the town centre and you'll find yourself in the great outdoors of parks, fields, wildlife and green spaces just waiting to be explored and enjoyed.
And best of all, we've got also the brilliant Swindon Ranger team to help us discover the little secrets and hidden places that we never knew existed.
Here are a few of their events coming up:
Afraid of the gym but struggling to shake off December's mince pies?
Join us felling and tidying up some of the trees in Shaw Forest.
When: Saturday 14 January 2012 at 10.30am-2.30pm
Where: Meet at Shaw Forest car park
Booking: In advance on 01793 490150
Equipment: Wear warm clothes and if you are comfortable working in a pair of walking, or steel-toe-capped boots. Don't forget a packed lunch and hot flask.
Spot the Birdie
Come and help the Ranger Team by taking part in the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch. Happening over the weekend, come and spot and record the birdlife, learn more about our feathered friends and then you can try it at home afterwards.
