Now we're into December, most of our thoughts are only on one thing - the Christmas Party!

 

And more often than not there's no better place to enjoy it than down the pub.

That's why we've teamed up with Arkell's Brewery to offer you the chance to enjoy great festive food and drink at any one of these local managed houses.

The Saracen's Head Hotel, Highworth

 

 

The Saracen's is one of Arkell's oldest pubs and is well-known locally for its good pub food. Dating back nearly 200 years, the exposed beams and friendly atmosphere provide a great deal of character, making it the perfect venue for your Christmas party.

 

Their Christmas menu itself promises everything that you'd expect for a great festive lunch, plus some superb alternatives for those who aren't such a fan of the traditional turkey - such as lamb shank with mint gravy or salmon coated with white wine sauce and served on ginger scented vegetables. Tasty!

 

And we haven't even mentioned the landlord's famous mulled wine!

 

 

The Kingsdown, Upper Stratton

 

 

Located just a stone's throw from Arkell's Brewery, the perfect pint is always guaranteed at the new-look Kingsdown. And at Christmas, Noel Ale, most appropriately, is very popular!

 

Food-wise, a traditional turkey lunch with all the trimmings is also one meal they most certainly know how to serve.

 

 

The Angel Hotel, Wootton Bassett

 

The Angel Hotel takes great pride in using locally sourced food (they've just won an AA rosette for their culinary excellence), and their Christmas menu this year is no exception.

 

With a choice of turkey (of course) and the likes of roast sirloin of beef or seared fillet of seabass, plus homemade desserts, you can be sure of a festive feast that won't disappoint.

 

 

The Sun Inn, Swindon

 

 

Always a popular pub at Christmas time, The Sun has plenty of room for eating, drinking and making merry, including a large conservatory restaurant at the rear ideal for big sit-down dos.

 

Add in a festive atmosphere that will match the top quality food and tipples, The Sun features a 2-course and 3-course Christmas lunch option priced at a very reasonable £14.50 and £17.50 that even the biggest office scrooge can afford.

The Runner, Swindon

 

 

The Runner is one of Arkell's most updated pubs, and although we'd like to recommend dining Al Fresco next to the adjacent River Ray we
might think that a little too chilly in December! Time for indoors then, and a dining room that's designed for mixing small and larger groups.

 

Roger, Sally and staff have this year prepared a great 3-course menu which offers delights such as pork fillet in an apple and cider sauce or sea bass fillets cooked with lime and coriander. Naturally, the turkey roast with all the trimmings takes pride of place on the menu, though.

 

 

The Tawny Owl, Swindon

 

The Tawny Owl is another pub that's well known for its generous portions, which, as you'd expect, makes it very much a North Swindon favourite at Christmas time. Expect to find plenty of options on the menu and always a good choice for office get-togethers at lunch time, festive family occasions and a party atmosphere in the evening.

 

This year The Tawny will offer a 2 and 3-course Christmas menu, with a number of main courses including spinach and mozzarella pudding, 10oz rump served with dauphinoise potatoes, and, of course, the good old turkey with all the trimmings.

 

 

The Riverside, Lechlade

 

With a big roaring fire in the restaurant, The Riverside is one pub that's busy throughout the summer and winter. Their upstairs function room - often overlooked - is ideal for private bookings and larger parties.

 

The Christmas menu offers a variety of tasty offerings, including starters such as a smoked salmon and prawn cocktail or a butternut squash and sweet potato soup served with petit pain and herb flavoured butter. The rich chocolate mousse with clotted cream sounds particularly inviting too!!

The Southbrook, Swindon

 

This is the second Christmas for The Southbrook under Arkell's ownership and its even more reason to celebrate for this welcoming pub just outside the town centre.

 

The restaurant room and bar provide more than enough room for groups big and small, plus a function room available (with a skittle alley) if you really want to party. Plenty of free parking too.
