And who better to tell us all about it!.....
Cinderella Review
by Kelly Jobanputra

It's that time of year again when you can shout out 'he's behind you' and 'oh yes it is' because this year's Wyvern Theatre pantomime of Cinderella is well under way.

Ryan Thomas of Coronation Street fame is playing the part of Prince Charming and seemed to make quite the impact with a fair few ladies in the audience but it was the two ugly sisters that thoroughly entertained myself, husband and daughter the most. David Ashley played the part of Brenda and Louie Westwood was Betty and they hands-down stole the scenes they were in. Their interaction with each other was precise and hilarious and you could tell they loved it as much as we all did.

This really was such a good evening's entertainment and had us all in stitches constantly. The performers were all slick and the costumes were made to a noticeably high standard. The sets helped portray the storyline of the tale and the jokes were coming thick and fast at a steady pace.

The part of Cinderella was very well chosen because Victoria Farley had the sweetest sounding voice that really suited her innocent role.

But the real highlight for me was when the ugly sisters kept talking about a man in the front row called 'Ian'. This unsuspecting audience member (a.k.a victim) ended up being quite the part of the show when they mentioned him time and time again. Eventually, the brilliant character of Buttons (played by the marvellous Dickie Wood) got Ian up on stage and sang to him. I won't completely reveal what happened but needless to say, it was an unforgettable experience for this man from Swindon.

The creators kept it current with renditions of chart hits from Olly Murs and Rhianna and also added in some classic tunes like 'a kind of magic' by Queen.

I loved the way they made the production so relevant to Swindon and surrounding areas in Wiltshire (with mentions of Marlborough and Minety.) The writers of this pantomime had clearly thought of everything in order to make this a successful piece of theatre.

We all certainly got our money's worth as well because the show started at 7pm and didn't finish until 9.30. I was worried that my daughter might not last that long since she's normally in bed by 7pm but this pantomime was brilliant enough to keep her engaged and she's still buzzing from the experience.

I would recommend Cinderella to everyone because it's what i would call good old fashioned entertainment with a sizeable sprinkling of current topics to keep it interesting.

This fantastically festive show goes on until the 8th of January. Don't miss out!
