Two engaging, pleasurable, and enlightening activities: reading and gardening.

 

And England has a pretty solid history in both. Author, gardener, and former publisher for three London publishing houses and the National Trust, Margaret Willes has a wealth of information and stories about both reading and gardening.

 

Her beautifully-illustrated talk will shed light on why and how books have been read and acquired over the centuries; and will explore the social life of the English garden, especially when, why, and how the mania for gardening took root.
