When Mammoths & Lions Ruled Swindon!

An illustrated talk at the Cotswold Country Park

Wednesday 07 November, 7.30pm
Gateway Centre, Spine Road, South Cerney GL7 5TL

It may be cold outside but a quarter of a million of years ago it was literally the ice age in and around Swindon.

A blizzard-torn landscape devoid of trees or life and, at other times, a rich savannah teeming with big game, including elephants, bison and even lions!

Knowledge of these creatures has come to light through the discovery of their fossilised remains, which would never have come to light if it were not for gravel extraction.

The magnificent mammoth skull from the Cotswold Water Park is one such find and is one of only two such complete skulls in Britain.

Expert Dr Katherine Scott from Oxford University will give an illustrated talk, set this important find in context, describing what we have recently learned about the ancient landscape and its now extinct inhabitants.

Cost: £6 - pre booking required.
