Jahmene Douglas headlined an Oasis concert that didn't disappoint, writes Mallory Nicholson
Swindon
Sunday 26 May 2013
2012 X-Factor runner-up Jahmene Douglas stunned the crowds as he headlined the ‘Best of Swindon’ concert on Sunday at Oasis Leisure centre along with other local up-and-coming talent.
The title of the concert ‘Best of Swindon’ definitely lived up to its name on Sunday as the Oasis became the host to five of the most genuine and talented acts Swindon has produced, since XTC or even Billie Piper.
The concert kick-started with indie/folk singer-songwriter
Theo Altieri.
|
Theo has been building up his loyal fan-base, and performing at local gigs for a couple of years now, so when asked to perform at the concert he stated he was "honoured to be apart of that title ‘Best of Swindon’. Its insane!"
"I was supporting Josh Kumra many moons ago, now look at him!"
Theo has also established some status in the industry by featuring on 1xtra’s playlist.
The song ‘Txt Me Back’ also includes rapper Daine Angle, who made an appearance at the concert to perform the song together.
Next on the line up was electro-pop act
Queen of Hearts.
Her majesty used tribal drums along with other experimental sounds, as she warmed up the crowd as well as the atmosphere.
|
Queen of Hearts debut EP was released on the 2nd of December 2012, and is entitled ‘Warrior’. The pop-princess’s chic performance wowed the crowd with her upbeat tracks, and sassy presence on stage.
Queen of Hearts is set for big things in 2013 after her previous performances at Coachella, Wireless Festival and the London Live Olympics Festival in Hyde Park.
The next act to maintain the the high quality of talent was
‘Colour the Atlas’.
The band were lead by the mellow and stunning tones of Jess Hall, as her rich voice echoed around the hall. The alternative-folk band have been together for 18 months, and will be touring in September and October, around the UK.
Colour the Atlas also released their first self-entitled EP that was available to download from 26th October 2012.

Tracks such as ‘Shockwaves’ and ‘Snow’ created a euphoric atmosphere that captivated the audience throughout their performance.
There is an exciting energy surrounding the band which will help them to produce a promising and interesting year for Colour the Atlas.
The penultimate act of the concert was the singer-songwriter
Josh Kumra.
Kumra secured his presence to the wider public in 2011, as he co-wrote and featured in the number 1 song ‘Don’t Go’ with Tottenham born rapper Wretch 32.
|
The soul-inspired artist sang songs from his debut album ‘Good Things Come to Those Who Don’t Wait’, including the haunting ‘Answer’ and ‘Reckless Love’. The relatable and down-to-earth lyrics Kumra sings, portrays his innate passion for music and the journey he’s been through.
Kumra has now been sighed to Sony RCA record label and has supported ‘Lianne La Havas’ on her European tour.
The concert finally came to a climatic end with the headliner that everyone had been waiting for,
Jahmene Douglas.
The stunning soul-singer performed covers such as ‘Tears Dry On Their Own’ by ‘Amy Winehouse’, and the iconic ‘At Last’ by Eta James, which he performed at the judges house’s on The X-Factor.
|
However the most outstanding performance of the night was the dedication to the tragic loss of three young lives ‘Jack Savage’ ‘Shaya Leigh’ and ‘Kerrylee O'Leary-Staniford’, who lost their lives in the recent A419 car crash.
The dedication ‘Arms Of The Angel’ was echoed by Jahmene’s choir who only emphasized his harmonic tones and vocals.
The local star has been busy touring with the X-Factor and will be releasing the name of his debut album - due for release in the summer - this week!
