First UTC Swindon open evening at STEAM

The team behind Swindon’s new University Technical College is inviting parents and young people to come along to its launch event and first open evening.
An evening of information and fact-finding will be led by UTC Swindon at the STEAM Museum in Kemble Drive on
Thursday 11 July at 6.15pm to launch Swindon’s University Technology College which will open in September 2014.
Staff and directors from the University Technology College will describe this new offer in technical education and how to apply for places.
Designs of the state-of-the art buildings will be on display. Dr Gareth Neighbour, who heads up Engineering at Oxford Brookes University, will be sharing details of the curriculum at UTC Swindon and talking about how the courses are linked to the work of local and national engineering employers.
Gareth Neighbour said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to find out about this exciting new college for 14 – 19 year olds, which will provide young people with an engineering-focused education and prepare them for careers in a diverse and innovative industry.”
The UTC Swindon team is preparing to attend many large events throughout the summer months, handing out leaflets and sharing information with potential students and their parents about UTC Swindon which opens in September 2014.

The first entry of students in September 2014 will need to be 14 at the time (currently in Year 8) or 16 or above (currently Year 10 and above). Applications will be accepted from a wide area, including all of Swindon, North Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and West Berkshire.
