Old Town Christmas Lights 2015
3-2-1!..... Ooops! I think we're going to need a new plunger, Mr Mayor!
The big switch-on in Wood St drew the crowds as new lights and a new Sunday date proved popular last night.
Swindon Mayor Andrew Bennett was on stage to do the honours alongside Richard Deacon of Deacons Jewellers, the SAM FM Breakfast crew and a young schoolgirl, Laura, who was plucked from the crowd to join in the fun at the last minute.
And in an hilarious moment that all added to a great evening, the traditional plunger used for the switch-on wasn't quite up to the job when the big moment arrived!
The two thousand people who braved the rain and high winds (which unfortunately meant the cancellation of much of the live entertainment) to witness the occasion then enjoyed a browse amongst stalls selling street food and shelter in the packed pubs including 20 at the Kings.
