England Observed

Step inside the world of German émigré John Gay who photographed England’s people buildings and landscapes from the mid-1930s to the mid-1990s.

 

Many of John Gay's photographs are seen as an exploration of his adopted homeland, capturing the true spirit of post-war England.

 

To mark the centenary of John Gay’s birth, this exhibition at STEAM Museum has been organised by the National Monuments Record (NMR), the public archive of English Heritage and custodians of the John Gay Collection.
