Free guided tree walk brings Lydiard to life

Free guided walk around Lydiard Park this weekend

Walkers can experience a tree-mendous afternoon courtesy of a free guided walk around Lydiard Park this weekend.

Lydiard Park warden Mark Eborn will take people through the wooded areas of the historic park, pointing out the various species of trees as well as giving information on the history of the woodlands and how they are being managed today.

The free walk, which coincides with National Tree Week, will take place on Saturday (28 Nov) at 1.30pm, but booking is essential.

The walk will cover about three miles within Lydiard Park and anyone interested in taking part should meet outside the Visitor Centre and wear stout footwear and appropriate clothing.

The walk will take approximately 90 minutes.

“Lydiard is home to some beautiful and very old trees, which provide a wonderful and essential habitat for wildlife," said Cllr Keith Williams, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Corporate Services.

“The free guided walk is a great way to enjoy the park, while at the same time learning about the history of the woodlands.”

“Our trees are some of the most striking and best-loved features of this historic park," added  Mark Eborn, Lydiard Park Warden.

“There are also thousands of new saplings planted in the last couple of years on the western edge of the park, which have replaced woodland trees felled in the 1940s to provide timber for the war effort.”

For more information on this walk or to book a place, please call Lydiard House on 01793 770401.
