Swindon & Cricklade Railway Steam Gala 2010

One event, two weekends! GWR 175 Steam Gala to be officially opened by Steve Davies

Swindon & Cricklade Railway announced that Steve Davies MBE, Director of Operations of the National Railway Museum (NRM), York, is to officially open their GWR175 steam gala on Saturday 12 June.

It is believed this is his first such official appointment since commencing the post of Director of Operations in early February, and is thus, quite a coup for the Railway.

Welcome onboard:
Steve Davies MBE, Director of Operations of the National Railway Museum (NRM), will officially open the GWR 175 steam gala

His visit is rather apt, as one of the visiting locomotives, Churchward 4-4-0 City of Truro, is part of the national collection, and is overseen by the National Railway Museum.

Steve Davies said, "It’s a great honour to have been invited to open Swindon & Cricklade Railway’s GWR 175 Gala and be part of the celebrations to mark the anniversary of one of the largest and most well known railway companies in the world.

"The GWR anniversary is being marked with events throughout the UK including the opening of a new free exhibition at the National Railway Museum, Great Railway Reflections."

Largest-ever event

GWR 175th anniversary
The two weekend GWR 175 gala is the largest event the Railway has ever staged, and will feature five locomotives in steam during both weekends.

The Railway has also joined forces with STEAM the museum of the GWR at Swindon, to offer joint tickets to both the GWR175 event and the museum during both weekends.

Other attractions throughout the weekends include train rides, refreshments, gift shop, barbecue and a vintage fun fair.

Dates: 12 / 13th June and 19 / 20th June
Advance tickets: Adults £9, Senior £7, Children £5 and Family £26

Please see the Swindon and Cricklade Railway website for more information and to book your tickets.
