John Gimlette

JOHN GIMLETTE – an illustrated talk on South America’s untamed edge.

Between the Orinoco and the Amazon rivers lies a fabulous forested land, shunned by the conquistadors, that is barely explored.

It is full of new species, old secrets, amazing characters, and marvellous stories.

It is where a love affair changed the face of slavery; where rebels, outlaws, and sorcerers thrive; and where more than 900 members of a religious community committed suicide.

On all of this, the jungle has closed in but the book has opened.

John Gimlette, prize-winning author, travel writer, and broadcaster, has travelled and written in more than sixty countries, mostly in parts of the world without fluffy towels.

He is the author of three brilliant books with eye-catching titles: At the Tomb of the Inflatable Pig, Theatre of Fish, and Panther Soup.

His most recent is Wild Coast – travels on South America’s Untamed Edge.

Tickets - £6 (£5)
