This year sees the centenary of the publication of A Wiltshire Village, the first book of prose by South Marston-born writer Alfred Williams.
Celebrated as ‘The Hammerman Poet’ in his own lifetime, Williams is being rediscovered as a local hero because of his inspiring life story, his charming poetry, and his highly readable books of prose, including Life in a Railway Factory, which is regarded as one of ‘the most important documents in the history of Swindon.'
