Tony Hawks at the Arts Centre

On the funny and tricky task of making books into films

Arts Centre
Old Town, Swindon
Monday 13 May 2013

Have you ever been wooed by Hollywood? What would you say if movie moguls wanted to make your book into a film? You cannot be serious; or, this is very funny! Comedian, author, lyricist, radio and television panellist, Tony Hawks tells the story of how he went from being a comedian and author to being a filmmaker as well.

Following the best-selling success of Round Ireland with a Fridge, Tony was approached by Hollywood film makers who wanted to buy the rights to his book. Unbeknown to him, this moment was a high point as the journey from then on became one of frustration and duplicity.

That is, until he decided to forget Hollywood and adopt the ‘do-it-yourself’ approach. Now, with films of two books under his belt, Tony can recount the hilarious and challenging ups and downs of being a British independent film maker.

There will be a chance for questions, book buying, and signing.

Ticket Prices: £8, Concession £7, Double Ticket for Hawks & Allen £13

Doors: 6.30pm
