The Mousetrap
The record-breaking 60th anniversary production is back at the Wyvern
Wyvern Theatre
Monday 19 - Saturday 24 September 2016
The Mousetrap is famous around the world for being the longest running show of any kind in the history of British theatre – with over 25,000 performances it’s a play to be proud of.
This record-breaking 60th anniversary production is back by popular demand in 2016.
The scene is set when a group of people gathered in a country house cut off by the snow discover, to their horror, that there is a murderer in their midst. Who can it be? One by one the suspicious characters reveal their sordid pasts until at the last, nerve-shredding moment the identity and the motive are finally revealed.
In her own inimitable style, Dame Agatha Christie has created an atmosphere of shuddering suspense and a brilliantly intricate plot where murder lurks around every corner.
Tickets: £24.00 - £32.50

Review of The Mousetrap
by Kelly Jobanputra
It was previously in Swindon two years ago and last night the record breaking 600th anniversary production of Agatha Christie's murder mystery classic 'The Mousetrap' came back to the Wyvern Theatre.
This is actually the longest running show of any kind in the history of theatre and as soon as it started last night, it had the whole packed audience on the edge of their seats with trying to guess who did it.
With over 25,000 performances under its belt, it still is as popular today as it's always been and after seeing it, I can see why it has such a loyal following.
The whole play takes place in a guest house called Monkswell Manor and the attention to detail of the set was so very impressive. You really felt like you were staring at a stately home and the use of space, with doors and stairways, gave the impression of how large this manor was supposed to be.

We first met the married couple Mollie and Giles Ralston, who are the people who run the guest house, as they were preparing for their visitors to turn up despite the heavy snow storm conditions happening outside.
They were worried no one would make it but everything went to plan and the first guest to arrive was the extremely hyperactive Christopher Wren. He was so full of beans, you felt like you needed to lie down as you were watching him in action.
This character, played by Oliver Gully, is an odd one but is also extremely endearing. He got many laughs out of everyone in the audience and bought some light relief to several tense moments.
The other characters in the play included Major Metcalf, Miss Casewell, Mr Paravicini and Detective Sergeant Trotter and they were all performers of the highest caliber. No one let the side down and they all were very believable in their role and commanded your attention each time the spotlight was on them.
The Mousetrap has a great twist at the end and will keep you guessing throughout. It was great to hear everyone speculating during the interval about how the plot would unfold.
There will obviously be no spoilers in this review as what's the fun in that? I am part of the secret now and if you watch it, you will have to be too.
I would suggest you grab a ticket yourself for one of the remaining nights (it is on at the Wyvern until Saturday the 24th of September) because this is a show that is guaranteed to entertain you.
