Highworth Community Cinema

St Michael's Hall in Highworth plays host to a number of great  films this autumn & winter

Highworth Community Cinema is an independent voluntary group, run by local residents on a “not-for-profit” basis, which aims to bring world-class films to Highworth in a warm and friendly atmosphere, and at a modest cost.
 
Admission for each film is £5, which includes a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit. Tickets are available on the door from 7.15pm.
 
 
What's showing this autumn & winter:

Bridge of Spies
Friday 23 September, 7.45pm

During the Cold War, an American lawyer is recruited to defend an arrested Soviet spy in court, and then help the CIA facilitate an exchange of the spy for the Soviet-captured American U2 spy plane pilot, Francis Gary Powers.
 
45 Years
Friday 28 October, 7.45pm

One week before their 45th anniversary celebrations, a married couple receive shattering news about the fate of the husband's first love. By the time the party is upon them, five days later, there may not be a marriage left to celebrate.
 
Dark Horse
Friday 25 November, 7.45pm
 
Director Louise Osmond chronicles the career of race horse 'Dream Alliance'. Owned by a syndicate of working class people in a small town in Wales, the horse won some of the more prestigious races in Britain.
 
 
Tangerines

During the war in Georgia in 1990, an Estonian man, Ivo, has stayed behind to harvest his tangerines. Ivo takes in two wounded soldiers from opposite sides. Set against a beautiful landscape defiled by war, this poetic film makes an eloquent
statement for peace.

An Irish immigrant, lands in 1950s Brooklyn, where she falls into a romance with a local. Summoned back home by a tragedy, another romance begins with the local publican's son, Jim, and she must choose between two cultures.

A Walk In The Woods

After living in England, Bill Bryson returns to the US where he decides to hike the Appalachian Trail with his former friend Katz, a down-on-his-luck serial philanderer who sees the trip as a way to sneak out of paying some debts.
