New BBC Show Hits Swindon!

Local heroes to be celebrated this weekend in new Street Auction TV programme

Swindon's heroes in the community could be in for a windfall when the BBC takes to our streets this weekend.

Street Auction, a new programme for BBC 1, rewards community champions who through volunteering, support groups or being a good neighbour make a difference in their neighbourhood.

Visiting Toothill on Saturday & Liden on Sunday!

On July 2 the first street party organised by the BBC comes to Deerhurst Way in Toothill with the second party taking place on Sunday July 3 at Tryon Close in Liden - and everybody is invited!

BBC Flog it presenter Paul Martin, along with Danny Sebastian and Irina Aggrey will be working to raise the funds for a deserving member of the local community by using hidden treasure in their street.

Neighbours will be asked to donate unwanted and unloved items which will be auctioned for money at the end of the party celebrations and it is only then that the nominee will find out the money has been raised is for them.

At each party there will be bric-a-brac stall, cakes sales, refreshments, arts and crafts and possibly a plant stall.

Paul said: “I am loving working on this brand new series, it is a fantastic chance to see true community spirit with neighbours helping neighbours.

“We have already spent a couple of days in Swindon in the past and we met some wonderful people who have been incredibly generous donating items for our bric-a-brac stalls and pop-up auction. There has been everything from antique coins to a driving course. It should be a brilliant weekend.

The director of Street Auction Jim Turner said: “On both days our presenters will be enjoying the street party atmosphere, stalls and entertainment, and of course, meeting up with the generous people of Swindon.”

Paul was in Swindon when recording Flog It earlier this year in May.

For more information about the weekend or to volunteer to help on the stalls, or to give any unwanted and unloved items contact Amy Ford on 0303 0833439 or email amy.ford@bbc.co.uk
