The Flying Scotsman

A talk at the Arts Centre with TV programme maker David Parker about the famous steam engine

Arts Centre, Swindon
Thursday 26 October 2017, 7.30pm

Is there a finer sight than the grace and power of a huge steam engine on the move? The award-winning television programme maker, David Parker, was lucky enough to be able to spend 12 months filming the rebuilding of The Flying Scotsman, regarded by many as the world’s most famous steam engine. But the year was anything but a bed of roses.

In this illustrated talk David will talk about how he first got involved with filming the ‘Scotsman’ and some of the challenges involved with filming across a year with a team of craftsman under extraordinary pressure. He will also talk about how he managed to persuade actor Robson Green to present the programme. He will show clips from A Rail Romance, the programme he made for the BBC about the history of the engine and after the interval there will be a screening of the programme he made for ITV, Flying Scotsman.

Tickets: £14.50, Concessions £2.00 off
