Swindon’s vinvolved Swindon Team bring Christmas to Life for the Elderly at GWH

Help give someone a memorable Christmas

 

This Saturday 19th December, a group of volunteers from the local Youth Action Team - vinvolved Swindon - will head to the Jupiter Ward of the Great Western Hospital between 3 and 5pm in a surprise visit to give out Christmas gifts to the elderly.

 

The team received generous donations from companies in the local area, including gifts from WHSmith, Boots, Crystal, Oxfam, Swindon Artists Forum, Giftology, Waterstones, and Yankee Candle. The gifts cover a wide range of everything from a knitting bag to a beautiful watercolour painting by a local artist.

 

Kirsty, 23, one of the vinvolved Swindon volunteers, from Stratton St. Margaret spoke of the reasons behind why the volunteers undertook the project: “We thought it would be good to do something nice for elderly people at the hospital at Christmas. It is usually young people in the children’s wards that get all of the attention, but we wanted to show the older people there that the local community do care about them. It will be nice to be able to brighten up their Christmas and put a smile on their face at a time that can be really tough to be in hospital without your family around.”
