Carmen is an Opera in four acts by a French composer Georges Bizet, which has become one of the best-known plots with the most memorable music.

 

Basing their work on Prosper Merimee’s novella, librettists Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halevy have fashioned a timeless story of love, jealousy, and violence in the Spanish city of Seville during the 19th century.

 

It tells the story of the downfall of Don José, a naïve soldier who is seduced by Carmen, a seductive, free-spirited femme fatale. José abandons his childhood sweetheart and deserts from his military duties, yet loses Carmen’s love to the glamorous toreador Escamillo, after which José kills her in a jealous rage.
