Swindon Festival of Literature 2010 - Steve Jones

STEVE JONES – on Darwin’s Island.

Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution is often thought to be the result of his voyage to the Galápagos.

But he spent only five weeks in those islands.

Following the Beagle’s return, he spent forty years exploring the biology and geology of Britain, crisscrossing this island in search of specimens to help formulate his theory.

In his latest book, Darwin’s Island, Professor of Genetics, award-winning science writer and broadcaster, Steve Jones examines what happened when Darwin settled down for good and wrote his vast oeuvre.
Great Britain was Darwin’s other island. His voyage here was a second great journey, an extraordinary voyage of the mind. And Steve Jones gets into it, brilliantly!

Tickets - £6 (£5)
