“2009 was our most successful year so far,” says Linda Kasmaty of Swindon Open Studios, “and we are expecting record numbers of visitors in 2010”.
Some sixty artists took part last year, with private studios open to the public across the borough. SOS also had the use of five exhibition spaces, including Swindon Central Library, which recorded its highest ever number of Sunday visitors on the SOS weekend.
Between them, the artists displayed paintings, textiles, drawings, sculpture, glass, ceramics, jewellery, computer graphics, photography and pastels, gave talks and demonstrations and provided cups of tea.
This year, for the first time, SOS will last for nine days, giving artists an even better opportunity to show their work and meet the public, and more flexibility over opening hours.
Artists and makers living within twelve miles of Swindon are welcome to take part.
Full details of the event, and an application form, can be found on the website via the link below, or you can phone 01793 527149 and request a form. The deadline for applications is 19th July.
“You don't have to have a studio!” says Linda Kasmaty. “You might like to share a studio with another artist. And last year we also had several very successful public spaces around Swindon, each shared by several artists.

The sooner we get your application form, the sooner we can get on with locating the right exhibition space for you.”
