Winter's Bone (15)
Swindon Film Festival 2011WINTER’S BONE (15)
US - 2010 - English - Drama
Debra Granik directs this tense drama based on the novel by Daniel Woodrell, set in the poverty-stricken backwoods of the Ozarks.
Jennifer Lawrence stars as 17-year-old Ree trying to hold things together for her young brother and sister and emotionally-wrecked mother.
Then she discovers that her absent father has been arrested and has put the family home up as collateral for bail.
If he fails to attend the court hearing, the family will lose its home.
Challenging the local code of silence and risking her life, Ree hacks through the lies, evasions and threats offered up by her relatives to try to trace her father.
“ Granik balances the pace and intrigue of a mystery thriller with total compassion for Ree, played with much skill by Lawrence.” (Time Out)
