Cultural Festival 2011

A series of vibrant events in Swindon town centre - EVERY THURSDAY IN AUGUST

 

With the summer holidays fast approaching, inSwindon are busily preparing the cultural festival to add some vibrancy to the town centre during the holidays.

Each Thursday throughout August inSwindon will be hosting a different cultural event at Wharf Green.

Musical Theatre Festival

Thursday 4th August
12.00pm - 2.00pm

Buddy The Musical

A Chocolate Theatre Society

 

Come see the stars of Buddy The Musical from A Chocolate Theatre Society at Wharf Green for some live musical entertainment and sketches from their recent performance. Cast members doubling as Buddy Holly and the Crickets will perform a selection of songs from the show, which are likely to include That’ll Be The Day, Rave On and Oh Boy.  
 

Jules Brogan

Songs from West End Shows

Another guest appearance is Jules Brogan who trained in Musical Theatre and gained a place at Mountview Theatre School, London. Unfortunately Jules was unable to take up the place as her father passed away and chose not to pursue it. Jules is now an event organiser and performs at corporate events and private functions as a jazz vocalist in the Southwest.

 

Jules will be performing three numbers as part of the showcase from some famous West End Musicals including; I Dreamed a Dream – Les Miserables All That Jazz - Chicago Somewhere Over the Rainbow- The Wizard of Oz.

Film Festival
Thursday 11th August

12.00pm - 4.00pm

Not sure what to do with the children for a couple of hours...well join inSwindon at Wharf Green for some great films live on the Big Screen.

 

Come and enjoy the outdoor screening of Ponyo, an animated adventure centered on a 5-year-old boy and his relationship with a goldfish princess who longs to become human.

 

There will also be entertainment on the ground with face painters, the Jungle Boogie Party Bus plus much more.

Visual Arts Festival
Thursday 18th August
12.00pm - 4.00pm

inSwindon has teamed up with the Swindon Photographic Society for the Visual Arts Festival. The scoiety will be displaying their work and advising people on how to get involved with photography.

Local businesses are also taking part in the event display digital cameras and promoting their goods to anyone who's interested.

If you have a creative mind and want to know more about photography then this is the event for you.

If you think you’ve got a fab photo or want to get snap happy in a bid to win your photo mounted and framed by Swindon Photographic Society, just submit your photo to inSwindon by Friday 12th August.

Entries will be judged by the Mayor of Swindon, Ray Ballman, on Monday 15th August. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded during the Cultural Festival on Thursday 18th August.

 

Music Festival
Thursday 25th August
12.00pm - 2.00pm

If you are a musician of any size from a solo pianist to string quartet then inSwindon want to hear from you!

 

On Thursday 25th August, from 12.00pm to 2.00pm, inSwindon are inviting any local musicians to come take part in the fun.

 

inSwindon are looking for a mixture of entertainment, anything from classical to jazz or whether you play the flute or the violin please send across a link or a sample to sjohnson@inswindon.com by Friday 19th August.
