Martin Miles Appeal Concert

Highworth go that extra mile for Martin

Thousands turned up to dance in the street for popular local policeman Martin Miles this weekend.

The centre of Highworth was transformed into a flashing arena for a concert to raise money for the local bobby who lost his leg in a motorbike accident in February.

"I'm shocked to see how many people are here," commented an emotional PC Miles, who attended the night with his family.

"We've got great community spirit here in Highworth and I can't thank people enough."

Thoughts echoed by key organisor Dilly Branston, who, alongside other members of a specially arranged Martin Miles Appeal committee, thought up the idea.

"It's been a wonderful night," Ms Branston said, "Martin has been greatly missed as our local police officer, and the money raised will really help his recovery."

Five local bands played on the night including Dirty Deeds, Crazy Horses, The Not Normal Band, Good Dogs and Alfonz, and over a hundred bikers rolled into the town to take part in a Motorcycle Poker Run.

The night raised over 3,000 pounds, including major donations from local businesses Andrews Butchers and Sally's Coffee Shop, adding to the 15,000 pound already collected.

A target of 50,000 pounds has been set so that PC Miles can fly to America to have a high-quality prosthetic leg fitted.

Fundraising events have already taken place for Martin have included a pram race and football tournament (see links below).
