Music night Prom-ises to be a success

Young musicians across the town will be taking to the stage on 1st December 2007 for the first Swindon Proms Night, to be held at the Wyvern Theatre.

The event follows a highly successful recorder-playing marathon which took place earlier this month.

Recorder marathon: Vice Chairman of Swindon's
NSPCC branch, Ian Underwood, cuts the tape

Playing to raise money in aid of NSPCC and Childline, dedicated members of Swindon's Music Service raised an impressive £500, in an event that lasted a staggering 12 hours.

The music room was alive as 12 musicians played every 10 minutes, taking a break only to update their music sheets.

Vice Chairman of the Swindon NSPCC branch, Ian Underwood, said at the time: “It is wonderful the students have chosen to support these two vital services.

“Events like this help towards our work on local projects.”

The marathon will be a hard act to follow, but with talented musicians coming together from across the town to take part in the forthcoming event which is being organised jointly by the four Rotary groups of Swindon, it is guaranteed to be an unmissable evening.

Tickets are available from the Wyvern Box Office on: 01793 524481.
