Swindon Town star, 'Super' Sam Parkin, was joined by Town Mayor, Stan Pajak, in switching on the Old Town Christmas lights on Thursday, 28th November 2002.

They were joined on stage for the event by host, Gary Vincent from GWR as well as Swindon's very own Town Cryer, Fred Ferris, ex-Swindon boxer, Eddie Neilson and Polly-Ann Tanner, who is playing Dick Whittington in this year's Wyvern Panto. The Tanwood Dancers were also in attendance to entertain the 2,000 crowd who gathered to celebrate this popular annual event.

After the switch-on, the Swindon Round Table 'Father Christmas' paraded down Wood St. in his sleigh accompanied to music and song from the Swindon Male Voice Choir and the Wroughton Silver Band.
