Taking the first call:
Tony Adams did his
bit at Nationwide
From running a mile at Kingsdown School, to answering the phones at Nationwide, Swindon certainly did its bit for Sports Relief 2008.

Ex-Arsenal player Tony Adams, who lives in Cirencester, was on hand to take phone donations at Nationwide's Pipers Way headquarters on Friday.

"It's such a great cause to support," said Tony Adams, after he took the first donation call at Nationwide.

"The way the money is used is fantastic, and I'm happy to help in any way I can."

Stuck in the mud

And despite the wind, the rain and the mud, hundreds of people from across the town turned out for the Sport Relief mile at Kingsdown School this morning.

Swindon Speedway riders Leigh Adams and Seb Alden, and Robins' boss Alun Rossiter gave up their time to run the Sports Relief mile - with Leigh and Seb crossing the line first.

The event was organised by 15-year-old Kingsdown pupil Conner Crespin, who came up with the idea of hosting the Swindon Sport Relief after realising he would have to travel to Bristol to take part.

He told us: "I couldn't believe there wasn't a mile to run in Swindon.

"I really wanted to run one and show my support but the closest run was in Bristol - so I decided to put one on and the results have spoken for themselves."

The charity which has already raised a whopping £23 million pounds, is still taking donations.

So if you haven't donated yet, make sure you pick up the phone - there's still time!
