The Swindon Mela presents an evening of South Asian music at the Old Town Bowl

The Swindon Mela as we know it might be taking the year off, but that hasn't stopped the organisers putting together something a little different. This August, Swindon will celebrate the vibrant music of Southern Asia with the Summer Dhamaka 2014 concert!
The 3 headline acts are as follows:
SK1
SK1 launched his music career with his debut album Sugar Shak which featured Smash Hit's like 'Tera Style' 7 'Lagiaan'. After the huge success of his debut album he performed all around UK, Europe, Middle East and United States. His next album Xpression's was given "The Performer of the Year Award"; He later took to the stage to present the album Desire with hit songs like 'Hum Tum Se Mohabbat' and 'Oh Kurri'. This saw him being nominated and awarded singer of the year at the Pakistani Achievement Awards. With his 2014 release 'Ishq Da Rogh' (Round Two) hitting the scene SK1 is an act you cannot afford to miss.
Sona Walia
A Mela's delight! Sona Walia has had great interest in singing since her childhood. Sona's roots are in Punjab and she always makes them shine through her passion of performing arts. The All Party Parliamentary Group in Britain decided to honour her with an award in the House of Commons, London for her contribution towards Punjabi culture. In a very short time of a musical career, Sona has made wave in the Bhangra scene with her debut album 'Resham Di Dori' and went on by winning 'Best Debut Female' at the PTC Music Awards Punjab and UK Bhangra Awards in London. Her latest single 'Sardara' is a tribute to all the "sardars" across the globe.
DCS
Formed in 1983 DCS have been played a big part in the UK Bhangra scene and have been seen as predecessors and influential to modern day bands. One of the most respected bands in the industry due to their lack of variation between their recordings as opposed to other live bands and their live performances. Their awards range from 'Best Male Vocalist'; 'Most Versatile Singer'; 'Best Male Artist' to 'Best Group'. With Gold Discs' and Outstanding Contribution to Best Live Band awards under their belt, fans are in for a treat.
