Swindon Alliance - Presentation by James Towner

The seven Research Councils of the United Kingdom have established a Shared Service Centre in Swindon, providing harmonised Human Resources, Payroll, Finance, Procurement, Grants and ISS Services. The aim is to deliver some gross financial savings, to be invested back into research, of around £450M and to achieve an improved and more consistent level of service quality.

James’s presentation will highlight some of the challenges involved in driving through a significant programme of change, which will affect tens of thousands of people, both customers and employees. He will also look at some of the major lessons learned and how the solutions were applied.

By the end of the presentation, you will have been able to share some pitfalls and challenges as well as exploring ways of overcoming obstacles whilst successfully delivering massive change. There are lessons that can be applied to organisations of any size, as they can have a positive effect on processes, people and technology.
