The Elephant Man
Old Town Theatre Company presents The Elephant Man by Bernard Pomerance.
"Sometimes I think my head is so big because it is so full of dreams"
Based
on the life of John Merrick, The Elephant Man tells the story of a
severely deformed, isolated man who is introduced to London society in
the late 1800's by physician, Frederick Treves.
Carrying the audience
from the circus freak show where Treves finds Merrick, to his new life
at "home" in the London Hospital, Treves is forced to ask the question
what is good and normal.
Pomerance's play is a moving and heart
breaking story of self-discovery and how cruel humanity can be to things
we don't understand.
NB This show contains scenes of nudity.
