Link Centre celebrates 25 years

Link Centre marks its 25th anniversary with community event - SEE GALLERY

 

A celebration was held this weekend to mark the 25th birthday of one of West Swindon’s most famous landmarks.

 

The iconic Link Centre building which was officially unveiled on 26 April 1985, but opened to the public the following July.

 

 

The Swindon Borough Council-owned leisure centre hosted a range of displays including musical theatre and dance, the Wildcats in the Community, skating and martial arts.

 

There was children’s storytelling and craft sessions, displays promoting a variety of sports and activity clubs for all ages, and representatives from Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue were in attendance.

 

“The Link has been a fantastic leisure facility for the council over the years and is one of the most striking buildings in the town," commented Cllr Fionuala Foley, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Corporate Services.

 

“The great thing about the Link is that it caters for a number of sports and activities and as well as being a recognised centre of excellence for both figure skating and ice hockey, it is also Wiltshire’s premier climbing facility.

 

 

“We have also made a number of improvements over the years including a new state-of-the-art gym, three floodlit five-a-side football pitches and a brand new café.”
