Sex In Suburbia

The audience were in fits of giggles from the start of this comedy, which has been co-written and directed by Liverpool’s sweetheart Claire Sweeney.

The show centres on Claire, who plays herself, and Penny Crowe, who is a host of a late-night phone in about all things sexual and possible mishaps. Penny the agony aunt is truly hilarious and her relationship advice is dished out with gusto.

Claire Sweeney, who was playing the part of Cilla Black, discovered she had a big fan in contestant number two as he confessed his undying love for her. Stalkerish or amusing? It was a bit of both!

This bubbly show wasn’t just about acting though. The crowd were also treated to songs such as I’m Every Woman, Somebody Else’s Guy and I Want to Break Free.

It was heart-warming to hear direct from Claire about her love for her six month old son Jaxon but it would have been even nicer to have even more of an insight into her life and her real dating history.

It also has to be said that the first half of the performance certainly didn’t get as many laughs as the much slicker and more comical second half, maybe because people didn’t realise how ‘in your face’ this production was. However, it’s certainly fair to say that this performance entertained from the very start.

If you are not shy of some rudeness and fancy a giggle with your girlfriends, this is the show for you. If you are a prude, move along.
