Swindon Festival of Literature 2010 - Alfred Williams – Anniversary Walk!

ALFRED WILLIAMS – Anniversary Walk! Led by Kaye Franklin, Chris Bowles, and Roy Burton.

Presented in association with the Friends of Alfred Williams.

Self-educated Swindon railways factory worker, known locally as ‘The Hammerman Poet’, author of five books of poems, as well as numerous prose works on country lore, Alfred Williams (1877 – 1930) was born in the village of South Marston.

This year marks the centenary of the publication of his first volume of poems, Songs in Wiltshire.

This Anniversary Walk, led by members of the Friends of Alfred Williams Society, founded forty years ago, will visit the houses where Williams lived and the churchyard where he is buried.

During the walk, there will be readings, and plenty of time to talk with Friends about his work.
