Swindon's War-Time Weekend

Visitors step back in time to the austerity years of the Second World War

Hundreds of vicitors stepped back in time this weekend to the austerity years of the Second World War.

It was all part of the War-time weekend event hosted by Swindon & Cricklade Railway.

The event featured a vast array of military vehicles, World War II trade stands, many re-enactors, (an army!), walking history, live battles, and wartime food.

There was in excess of 60 military vehicles, ranging from a Harley-Davidson motorbike to a Stuart tank; and also 2 1/16th scale tank clubs, with members coming from the US, and other European countries, including France.

There were alos 20 living history groups including „The Screaming Eagles‟, the Luftwaffe Society (Re-enactment battle), Nell‟s Bell‟s Woman‟s Land Army, past regiments, Wessex Historical Household Farm House Kitchen and Police Station, Battle of Britain Pilots, and „Uncle George‟.
