British One-Act Play Final

Teams of amateur actors, crews and directors perform short one-act plays

 

Now in its 78th year, the British One-Act play festival brings together four competing acting companies representing England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, in its annual search for the best British one-act play.

They’re all heading to the Wyvern Theatre, where this year’s British Final is being held.

Supported by John Lewis, the festival sees teams of amateur actors, crews and directors perform short one-act plays that have successfully won at regional and divisional finals in their home countries to win a place at the grand final in Swindon.

It’s not just drama though, you can expect comedy too, or farce.

And for anyone who’s not sure if they ‘like’ theatre, an event like this is a great way to find out, especially since each play is no longer than 55 minutes!

Each team is given between 20 and 55 minutes to perform a short one-act play, including set up and strike of their stage set.

Points will be awarded and penalties given by competition adjudicator Mike Tilbury GODA, who will judge contestants on acting, production, stage presentation and dramatic achievement.
