Green Goddess: A festival goer gets into
the spirit of all things green
|
Green was definitely the 'Wrde' when over 5,000 people descended on the Lawn area of Old Town on Saturday, 30th August for Swindon's fifth 'Forest Festival'.
Sponsored by Nationwide Building Society the Festival is a celebration of trees and their products and promotes a greener lifestyle. It also provides information about the Great Western Community Forest projects in and around Swindon that have helped transform a number of woodlands, green spaces and areas for wildlife so that they can be enjoyed by everyone.
In addition to a packed programme of musicians and performers offering all-day entertainment, basketmakers, woodturners, clog and trug makers, brushes, brooms and rustic furniture makers and a wheelwright were invited to demonstrate their traditional woodcraft skills. Children were also given the opportunity to try something new in the many workshops on offer, join in the creation of a giant willow seat sculpture, build a bird box, a clay green man mask or hang their own special leaves on the massive reclaimed scrap timber tree.
