Old Town Theatre Company Take Top Prize

Swindon's Old Town Theatre Company (OTTC) and Whole Hog Productions took first and second adult places respectively at HJ'10.

The festival adjudicator, GODA's Sonia Woolley, praised the companies for their performances, awarding Whole Hog the Charles Grace Cup for the Runners Up; and OTTC, the Betty Peck Rosebowl for Best Play.

OTTC performed 'Invitation to a Party' by Bridget Derrett; five people trapped in a lift on Millennium Eve, in a comedy of Millennium Bug fears, extra-marital affairs and lost toupees!

Whole Hog performed an original piece by its director, Phil Regan.

'The Last Supper' is a challenging story of two kidnappers and their victim as they await the ransom phone call.

Whole Hog also won the awards for Best Actor and for Technical Achievement.

Pewsey Vale Amateur Dramatics Society acquitted themselves magnificently during HJ'10, snapping up five awards.

They scooped the BBC Wiltshire Audience Award, the June Thompson Memorial Cup for Dramatic Endeavour, The Lester Trophy for Best Supporting Actor, The Peter English Award for Best Direction and the Brenda Lilley Loving Cup for Best Youth Group!

"What an event we had this year!" said Festival Director, Ashley Heath.

"12 plays in three days, including an unprecedented four plays on the Saturday afternoon.

"Once again, our actors, directors and crews proved to everyone that amateur theatre in Swindon and Wiltshire is all about standards that would test the professionals!
