J&M Flooring celebrates 5 years in Old Town by saying 'it's the best move we ever made'

 

In the age when many independent businesses are turning their back on the high street in favour of going more online, one Old Town family firm are most definitely bucking the trend.

 

J&M Flooring moved to Wood Street five years ago as the first step when setting up their carpets and flooring business in 2012.

 

And as partner Jennifer Pike told us, "it was the best decision we ever made."

"We've always liked Old Town since we moved to Swindon in 1986, with its mix of independent shops and more personal service. So when we decided to start J&M, it was our obvious first choice.

 

"The last five years have been fantastic for us. We're a real family business here with traditional values for providing customer service, so being here in Wood Street where people can visit us or just pop in we think has been the biggest part of us making a real success of things so far."

And from starting with just Jennifer and her husband, Michael, at J&M Flooring, the business truly is a growing family affair with daughter Becca also helping out and their son-in-law, Ash, a full-time fitter.

 

So much so, J&M have built on their Swindon success by opening a second shop in Malmesbury (see story below).

 

"Michael has been working in the carpets and flooring industry for nearly 40 years, with his brother and father before him, so you could say the business really is in our blood.

 

"Hopefully that really comes across to our customers, because we're all very proud of J&M in the family.

 

"Our only problem is J&M is named after the two of us (Jennifer and Micheal) so we aren't quite sure how we can bring the other initials in to it! One to think about, perhaps, when we need bigger premises.

 

"In Old Town, of course!"
