Bathroom Budget Make Overs

Your ultimate bathroom design probably includes a sunken bath from the Presidential Suite of the Savoy (the London Hotel not the pub), marble flooring and highly expensive fixtures and fittings. Realistically, though, your bank balance says otherwise.

Ideas for rejuvenating your tired old bathroom on a budget are:

Tiling.
Bringing your bathroom to life maybe as simple as cleaning the grout with a toothbrush and some bleach - it really can work wonders - but often nothing looks better than new, properly co-ordinated, tiles. If you are prepared to put the work in - and it really can be fun - or employing a professional to do it, choosing to mix up some budget tiles and a few expensive ones can produce a great look for hardly any outlay.

Bathroom Cabinet.
Buying a new cabinet is the ideal, but if the budget is really tight why not repaint or refinish the doors? Depending on the decor, you can add colour through painting, antiquing or other interesting techniques.

Shower Curtain.
It's an obvious improvement, but spending a little extra on a nice, bright shower curtain can make the biggest change to the room. 'Psycho' grey is not recommended.

Towels and Towel rails.
New and colourful towels can make a big difference as can a new towel rail - especially in winter if it's a warming one. There are plenty on offer with many a lot less expensive than you think.

Lighting.
Change the mood using soft lighting or by even adding more light to a dark bathroom. While new lighting will require some electrical work, the process generally is very easy and the project will be only as expensive as your taste and selection in lighting.

Incorporating Artwork.
Photographs, coloured glass bottles and bowls can be very cheap ways of also changing the mood. Framing photos and pictures properly will stop the steam ruining them!

Shelves.
Decorative shelves, made of glass, stainless steel or wood, can be an inexpensive way to create a more visually appealing atmosphere in the bathroom while opening up counter and cabinet space. Perfume bottles, lotions and other bathroom items often come in beautiful bottles and packaging that make them too pretty to hide away.
