Gillingham could afford to miss a penalty as Swindon's good run came to an abrupt end.

 

Only a late full-length save from Vigouroux in the Town goal stopped the scoreline being more one-sided in a Boxing Day lesson Town fans little expected.

 

In fact, after Jon Obika put Town ahead after 18 minutes, when the striker started and superbly finished a breakaway move, it briefly looked like Martin Ling's run of four wins in a row would continue.

 

But with the visitors level almost immediately, then ahead before half-time, it was always going to be difficult when Jackson sealed it from long-range with twenty minutes to go and Town lacking any ideas up front.

 

The misery was then multiplied when captain Raphael Branco was dismissed for a second booking before Bradley Barry gave away the spot-kick.

 

"We certainly lost control and that competitive edge in second half," admitted Ling at the final whistle.
