For the second game in a row Swindon were left to reflect on a disappointing defeat that sees Doncaster leap-frog them in the League table and slides Town down to eleventh.

A surprisingly subdued crowd of over six and a half thousand watched a lacklustre performance that Town fans have become unaccustomed to seeing under Paul Sturrock. However, the game was not helped by some poor refereeing decisions which didn't allow either side to find any rhythm.

The first-half was uneventful at best until Doncaster midfielder Brian Stock managed to squeeze the ball past Peter Brezovan for the opener just after the half hour mark - the big keeper will maybe feel he should have done better.

In the second-half Town got themselves back into the game when a left wing cross from Sofiene Zaaboub was fumbled by veteran keeper Neil Sullivan and in the resulting melee Simon Cox scrambled the ball into the net.

Town then went in search of the winner, but unfortunately it was this cavalier attitude that ultimately cost them a share of the points.

Doncaster sealed the win in fortuitous circumstances when the ball rebounded to Lewis Guy who was on hand to tap the ball home.

“Its a bitterly disappointing result against a solid looking Doncaster side, who will be there or there abouts come next May,” commented a rueful Sturrock after the game.

With another tough test on Tuesday night when Town host high flying Leyton Orient, the manager admitted the team needed 'freshening up a wee bit' in order to get their season back on track.
