Swindon Town 1 Orient 1Coca-Cola Football League One
Tuesday 06 November 2007 RESULT: Swindon Town 1 Leyton Orient 1 Swindon scorer: Aljofree 90+2 Orient scorer: Boyd 86 A scrambled goal from Hasney Aljofree deep, deep in to injury-time saved Town from their third defeat in a row tonight.
The captain's left-footed effort dramatically denying the vistors what had looked like certain victory (and the chance to go top), after Orient's Adam Boyd had put them ahead with only five minutes remaining.
Orient were good value for at least a point and will be disappointed not to have take home all three. Town on the other hand can count themselves lucky not to have been beaten for the second time in four days at the County Ground.
In the first-half neither side troubled the keepers but it was Orient who made the best of it, with Swindon appearing to play more like the away side – defending very deep and allowing the opposition to dominate. The second-half was much the same until introduction of Barry Corr with twenty minutes to go, the big Irishman breathing some life into a seriously under-performing home side. However, he was helpless to prevent Orient taking the lead from a late corner, the ball knocked down and Adam Boyd on-hand to stab the ball into the roof of the net.
The goal was a real hammer blow to the home fans who feared the team's good start to the season was rapidly deteriorating, but Aljofree had other ideas and his goal sent the home fans and his team-mates delirious. With a tough away trip to Wycombe on Saturday the FA Cup will hopefully provide a welcome distraction to Town's recent poor League form. A positive result and performance at Adams Park would help as up next in the League is a trip Elland Road against a Leeds side brimming with confidence – something Paul Sturrock's men are seriously lacking at this moment.
The point moves Town up to 10th. The League One table:
