Toothill bus crash tragedy
The parents of Ashley Whiteway have paid tribute to their son following his death on Thursday.
Ashley’s parents said:
“Ashley was a much-loved son who will be sadly missed by all his family. The last few days have been a difficult time for us and we would ask that people respect our desire for privacy as we come to terms with our loss.”
Ashley's friend, Dean Harle, who was seriously injured in the accident, remains in a critical condition.
The two Toothill schoolboys were struck by a bus late on Thursday evening in Westlea Drive when crossing the road to Westlea Recreation Ground.
The inquest into the tragic accident is due to open at Swindon coroner's court tomorrow.
Boy killed and another seriously injured

Just after 8pm, the number 55A Stagecoach service travelling along Westea Drive struck two children who ran into the road.
One boy, believed to be six-years-old, died at the scene, while the other, believed to be slightly older, was taken to the Great Western hospital with serious head injuries.
He has since been transported to Bristol Royal Infirmary for specialist treatment.
The driver of the double-decker bus was treated for severe shock at the scene, then released by Police investigating the incident.
The road was shut for over 6 hours as a consequence. |
