Home from home hotel and restaurant
Why we recommend you stay at The Barrington Arms in Shrivenham
It’s not very often that you can walk into a bar and get a warm welcome, but, this is exactly what I got at the Barrington Arms in Shrivenham. Owner Paul Davoile welcomed me in to show me around their newly furnished B&B, bar and restaurant – and wow, have they done a lovely job.
Located just outside Swindon, the Barrington Arms is a hidden gem in the Wiltshire Countryside. It’s a family run hotel so you instantly know you’re getting a real home from home feeling.
There are 3 separate areas downstairs; a main bar for pool, entertainment and drinking. A lounge bar with bold colours and relaxing sofas spread around the place; perfect for coffees and business meetings (free WI-FI throughout is yet another plus!) And a separate light and airy dining area to the bars.
Accommodation
They currently have 4 rooms with 3 doubles and 1 suite which can sleep up to four. But looking outside they are completely transforming the back to build a further 5 rooms, which all look over Shrivenham’s beautiful countryside.
While I was there I overheard a family who had spent the night the previous evening raving about the comfort of their stay – could be the memory foam mattress that all their beds have though!
New Menu
They’re new menu that has just been launched is described as hearty, homely cooked food and ranges from Kleftico half shoulder of lamb slow cooked in oregano, garlic and oil served with mustard mash and broccoli florettes at £13.95 to poached or grilled salmon, new potatoes and salad at £8.95.
On a Sunday they offer an already hugely popular carvery for £7.95 with a choice of three seasonal meats and vegetables, served from 12pm. Save some room for the puddings...the Banoffee Pie is ridiculously yummy! Speaking to Paul about what he and his wife, Lynne plan to do next he said, "we have loved throwing ourselves in the village life around here, and we want to continue to do this. Every Wednesday the local walking group pop in for a coffee, and we welcome anyone to pop in and visit."
"We’ve now launched our new menu, and we plan to do theme nights as well as a quiz night on a Thursday."
Don’t worry about a taxi!
Another service Paul and Lynne offer is their mini bus service, where they will pick you up and drop you off for no additional cost!
For businesses wanting a place to meet, there’s free wi-fi. And those with a dog are always welcome. For more information call The Barrington Arms on 01793 784692. |
